What are readers saying about The Deer with thew Purple Nose?
|
|
" This is a really cool collection of nature photographs designed to teach children
cleverly disguised as a fun mystery book. The photos are gorgeous, really stunning. Each animal is identified
(lots of different birds) and given a voice as a character in the story. The forest critters led by a pair of
sleuthing dogs try to figure out how and why a deer's nose has turned purple. The end of the book provides
encyclopedic entries on each creature which is great for kids. My kids loved it!"

Kid's Mystery Book Reviews
" This is a delightful mystery that young children are sure to love. Purdy's solving of the mystery
is totally age appropriate and fun. Every page has a wonderful photo that kids will love looking at again and again. An
additional bonus is that kids will learn to identify a variety of birds and animals found in the wild. Plus the author has
included a special recipe for . . . you'll have to read the book to find out."

"An opportunity to join in on the sleuthing to find out how Dottie got her purple nose is a "fun"
component to this story. Beautiful pictures of birds and other critters eating at feeders give many children an
introductory peek at a variety of birds, some of which may even be found near or around the children's homes.
In addition to the beautiful pictures, the book provides a glossary containing a detailed description of food choices
as well as the location where these birds can be found. Many ideas for activities involved with learning come to mind,
ie; 1. Map location of birds. 2. List of various foods. 3. Compare seeds vs berries. And 4. Who eventually solved the
mystery? To list just a few. A great source for school use as well as for home schooled children."

"This is such a fun and engaging tale for kids. I have always been a fan of children's books that
use actual photos. I believe they give young readers a better understanding of the world around them. The pictures in
The Deer with the Purple Nose are beautifully done and I found them visual stimulating. The mysterious plot will appeal
to children and parents alike as they follow the forest animals in search of hidden clues.
I highly recommend picking up a copy." S.T.

"When I heard about this book full of photographs that's a mystery I was definitely intrigued.
And now having read it, I still find it a remarkably clever idea. First off, the photographs are beautiful and arranged
in a way to tell the story. It's amazing the way the author/photographer managed to take photographs that work so well."

"The Deer with the Purple Nose blends wonderful photography with a heartwarming story of 2 dogs
trying to solve the mystery of a deer that somehow ended up with a purple nose. The photos of the various woodland
friends the dogs "talk" to are outstanding and the surprise ending is superb. My grandchildren love hearing the story
whenever they visit!! "
